Nostradamus' Life
December 14 1503: Nostradamus Is born
1522-25: Studies medicine at university in Montpellier, receives licence to practice medicine.
1529: Starts doctoral studies in medicine at Montpellier Medical School
Early 1530’s: Invited to home of philosopher Julius-Cesar Scalier in Agen and works as a healer there.
Around 1534: Marries and has two children
Around 1537: Wife and children fall il due to plague while he is away on a medical mission to Italy, he desperately comes back to save them but is too late and the die. His wife’s family sues him for the return of her dowry. His friendship with Scalier is lost.
1538: after being charged with heresy for a remark he made about a church statue, he leaves the region and reportedly travels around Italy and other parts of France for a number of years.
1546: treats plague victims in Aix-en-Provence then goes to another outbreak in Salon-de-provence.
1547: marries Anne Ponsarde and settles in Saloon-de-Provence, the couple go on to have six children.
1550: Publishes first ‘almanac’ (book), which contains general prediction for each month of the year these appear annually until his death.
1554: Decides to write a massive book called the Centuries. He planned to write 10 volumes, which would contain 100 predictions forecasting the next 2,000 years.
1555: Nostradamus book ‘Les Prophecies’ is published. The remainder of Century 4 along with 5, 6 and 7 are published later that year.
1555: Catherine de Medici, the wife of King Henry II of France, summoned him to Paris to draw up horoscopes for her children. A few years later she made him Councillor and Physician-in-Ordinary to King Henry’s court.
1559: King Henry II is killed in a jousting accident, Nostradamus’ supporters believe the kings death was predicted in Century 1, Quatrain 35
1560s: Nostradamus is named royal physician to the french monarchy
1564: Catherine de Medici visits Nostradamus in Salon-de-Provence. She remains a loyal supporter despite criticism.
June 1566: Nostradamus asked to draw up an extensive will, leaving much of his estate to his wife and children.
July 1, 1566: he is given his last rites by a catholic priest. He said to his secretary “you will not find me alive at sunrise”, the Prophet (Nostradamus) correctly predicts he’ll be dead by the following day, he was found dead on the floor next to his bed.
